RAILING SYSTEMS
If your rooftop does not already have parapet walls or an existing railing system, then you're likely considering related options as part of the rooftop deck project. Selecting a railing design takes into consideration plenty of aesthetic and practical preferences so that the system blends nicely with the deck and its surroundings. Fortunately, there are many styles and materials to choose from.
Because railing posts are typically anchored through the waterproof envelope of the house or building, there is no room for error. The precise details of the structural substrate, hardware, measurements, tolerances, and seals are every bit as important as design considerations.

Two structural considerations should be at the forefront of your planning:

The railing system must be solidly anchored to structural substrate in a manner that does not compromise the roof membrane nor the building's waterproof envelope.

The railing system must incorporate some form of blocking to restrain the perimeter of the floating deck system.
